for everyone

For the rules and how to join in this fun escapade, and share your photos from around the world with good people ... it all starts here:

http://fotofriday.multiply.com/journal/item/75

This is known as Balancing Rock, which resides in a place called Garden of the Gods, in Colorado Springs, CO. I consider this magical for a couple reasons. First, this huge boulder sets on top of a flat rock, unaided or held up by invisible wires and has been this way well over several hundred years. It is a piece of natural wonder to stay balanced this way without ever tumbling off it's perch. It also holds special magical powers for the Pueblo Indians that live in and around the area. For generations, they have come to this rock to pray, and many have said their prayers have been answered over the years just by kneeling before it in tribal fashion and speaking their words before this empowering rock, which weighs over 3,000 pounds. I probably have about 100 photo's of the Garden's, I find it a very fascinating place with a stout history and have seen things happen there that wouldn't happen at any other time or place. Here, you can read about one such event that takes place there:

http://danceinsilence.multiply.com/journal/item/194/So_Says_The_Legend

I did crop out a portion of this photo, as I wanted nothing to pull your eyes away from this. Again, this was taken with my Canon PowerShot A540 at max zoom.

Prayer Above

I come to you, my strength,

before the eagle sunlight eye,

asking for all things great and small

to surround my People,

that they may continue their ways;

to live as brother and sister

beyond time

until all reach your home.

I sit before you in grace,

praying for peace among brother,

praying for guidance for our future,

that our children live long lives,

and one day come to you

for strength,

for guidance,

for supplication.

Of this, my life is yours,

without question

that my People prosper.

Return me to where I came from

that my People live in peace.

Peace,

a word long forgotten,

return its memory to us

for the ages of those yet to be.

My tears fall for them.

Thank you for another interesting blog, magical indeed! I ran to yours when I noticed a new pp :) and it was magical indeed!
There are mysterious places like this several places in our world, and we hesitate..not sure what to think about the phenomenons. We have good reasons to be humble, as you so well expressed through your prayer/poem.

Amazing formation, read the story on the Cloud Warriors, fascinating. We are so out of touch with the natural order of things, would most of us even notice such things around us. I have to put this on my Places to Experience list!!

Terrific photo, Bill. The magical powers of Mother Nature are truly amazing and this is another fine example what the winds and rain can do to bring out the already natural beauty of the rock. I've been there as well as Sedona, AZ...and I always marvel at the colors.

If you have a moment, please drop by Romy's "Magical Kingdom" and take a peek.

The Garden Of the Gods is a really neat place to visit. I haven't been there for 27 years. Is it still free? There are few places one can enjoy with out having to pay an entrance fee to visit that to have such a beautiful place be one is magical indeed. Excellent photo.

Balancing rock ~ magical for sure but than, I believe there is so much magical in nature.
Your reading . . . well, I can't find the words other than beautiful and that seems hardly enough. Listened twice and that seems hardly enough. A wonderful post, Bill.

Lovely picture, I can see why this would be seen as magical and sacred to its people. Lovely words and prayer, the word Peace does indeed seem so long forgotten, but I hope it will return in the age of those now coming into being, that they will heal her completely from that which starts now. -janeen
